Valpo firefighter answers call for second calendar shoot

VALPARAISO Being one of the featured models in the 2012 America’s Female Firefighters calendar has produced a few perks for Stephanie Hart, a Valparaiso firefighter/paramedic.

Not only did she get to travel to several national expositions for fire equipment, including the recent Fire Department Instructors’ Conference in Indianapolis, which is one of the industry’s biggest, she got three proclamations in her honor, from the city, the county and the governor’s office.

“I might get to go to the South Carolina show in June,” she said. She said two or three of the calendar models usually attend the expositions to “sell calendars and give out autographs. Cheap Jerseys free shipping We do pictures with people and the firetrucks. We meet a lot of people.”

Ten of them made it to the Indianapolis show, including another firefighter model from Indiana. Money from the sale of the calendars and posters of the women goes to raise awareness and educate people about fire safety and treatment of burn injuries and to the national People’s Burn Foundation, which is based in Indiana.

In a somewhat unusual move, Hart has been invited to appear again in the 2013 calendar.

Usually the model who sells the most calendars gets to return as the cover girl for the next year’s calendar. That wasn’t the case last year, and Hart was the second highest seller this year with 300 calendars and “I forget how many posters, but it was a lot.”

The top seller was invited back but decided once was enough, so the honor went to Hart. She doesn’t know if she’ll be the cover girl. Nobody knows where their photo will appear until the calendar is released at a national convention later this year. Hart will be in Florida for the photo shoot in June.

The AFF makes all the arrangements, including arranging sponsors for each woman. Last year Hart posed with a Husqvarna saw used by fire departments for cutting holes in buildings to gain access or create ventilation.

“It was neat because that is what we use in Valparaiso,” she said. “I’m excited about doing it another year. I’ve been working out harder because I just found out two weeks ago I’d be in the calendar again.”

She doesn’t know if she would be eligible for a third appearance in the calendar, but maybe she can get officials to proclaim three more days to honor female firefighters.
